Highlights

Best Time and Season

The best time for Pachermo Peak Trek is during the Spring and Autumn. One of the main reasons to trek during these seasons is the balanced weather conditions.

The spring season consists of March, April & May. The monsoon hasn't started yet in these seasons. So the sky is pretty clear with few clouds giving us a scenic view along the trail. The trail is filled with greenery with flowers just starting to blossom. In addition, the view of the snow-capped mountains and the lush hills makes the journey more fulfilling.

Similarly, the autumn season consists of September, October & November. The monsoon season has already passed since the start of this season. The leaves and the flowers start to change their color. At the end of the season, they fall off the ground creating a carpet of orange foliage. Additionally, the picturesque view of the forest, hills, and mountains in the clear sky is somewhat soothing to the eyes.

There is an option to do this journey in the Summer and Winter seasons, but it is not recommended as the weather conditions can be quite harsh during these seasons. This can affect the overall journey from trekking to climbing the peak.

Accommodation on Pachermo Peak Climb

Most of the part the accommodation will be the local tea house which facilitates both a room as well as dine-in. There are a few standard lodges in the initial section of our journey. But as we move further, the tea house is our only option. They come with basic facilities with the most probable shared bathroom.

We will have to stay in the tent near the climbing area for a few days, where we need to use the natural preservation tent toilet. Therefore, for accommodation, we will have a chance to stay in either a basic to standard room to a tent.

Meals Availability on Pachermo Peak Climb

Similar to the accommodation, in the initial phase of the journey we will have a choice of items to choose from the menu to have. But as we proceed ahead, the items get lesser and more common.

The teahouses on the way have a large dining area, more like a family style, where we can have our meal with other climbers as well. Everyone sitting together at the same place to have the meal is more welcoming and familiar. This way we can share each other journey stories while having a meal.

We will get food from Nepali cuisine to Western cuisine. However, the general meal is Dal, Bhat & Tarkari, which is a traditional meal that is full of calories. This helps us recover all the lost energy during our hike.

Difficulty and Challenges of Pachermo Peak Climb

Pachermo Peak is considered moderately tough to climb. It requires prior mountaineering experience with great skill in snow and ice climbing. The changing weather conditions, while also navigating the challenging terrains can be difficult for some individuals.

There is a chance of getting altitude sickness in the higher altitudes. As the level of oxygen starts to deplete and the air pressure also changes, our body might not adapt to these changes. This can result in altitude sickness. Therefore, to make sure our body adapts to these changes, we acclimatize in a few places for a day.

The overall journey is quite demanding, as there are steep ascents with unpredictable changes in weather. So, one must be in excellent physical condition to complete this expedition.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is one of the important documents for our expedition. We can never be sure of what might go wrong during our journey. However, it would be beneficial if we ensured the correct things beforehand.

This Travel Insurance covers medical emergencies, medical evacuation, and trip cancellation. Therefore, it is advised to have insurance when trekking or climbing in any part of Nepal. This will surely come in handy if things don't work as planned during the expedition.

Altitude Sickness and Remedies

We will be crossing an altitude of 6000 meters on this journey. As we ascent in our journey, the air pressure starts to change and the oxygen level starts to get low. Therefore, with such a high altitude, altitude sickness is inevitable for some individuals. It is one of the major blockers for the climbers in their journey.

Some of the symptoms that we feel are headache, vomiting, insomnia, and reduced performance and coordination. Also, it is important to inform the guide/ leader if there is any discomfort due to altitude. The earlier you let us know, the faster we can help improve the situation.

Meanwhile below are the things to remember:

  • Acclimatization is essential as it helps our body adapt to higher altitudes.

  • Eating food with a proper diet, and high calories is a must.

  • No smoking and alcohol consumption.

  • Keep your body hydrated by drinking water often.

  • Medicinal herbs like garlic and ginger can help reduce the effects.

Permits Required

Permits are another crucial document we require in our journey. There will few checkpoints of the trail where our permits will be verified and then only we will be allowed to move further.

In this journey we require two different permits, they are:

  1. Climbing Permit: To climb the Pachermo peak, we require a permit from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

  2. Park Permit: We will be passing through the Sagarmatha National Park and Gaurishankhar Park. And to enter these parks we require a permit.

To ensure the safety of an individual these permits are required. It also ensures the climbers have access to the legal route for further expeditions and helps the authorities to track them for safety concerns.

Packing List, Gears, Equipment

It is a long journey to the Everest region. So we, need to prepare ourselves and take the necessary items only in our bagpacks. Some of the important items that are required in this journey are:

  • Sleeping bag

  • Mountaineering  boots

  • Personal medical supplies

  • Headlamp with spare batteries

  • Maps, compass, guide books

  • Insulated Jackets and pants

  • Personal Locator Beacon

  • All climbing equipment (Climbing Helmet, Harness, Rope, Carabiners, Ice axe, jumars)

Overview

The Pachermo Peak Climb is a popular expedition in the Rowling region of east-central Nepal, offering a mix of trekking and climbing experiences. Lying in the south of Tashi Laptcha, Pachermo Peak is a straightforward snow peak that features a well-defined north by a northwest ridge that rises from a crevassed glacier, which remains the main route to the summit. Standing at 6187 m it was first summited in 1955.

The trek presents a unique climbing experience accessible from the busy trekking trails of the Khumbu region or the more remote Rolwaling region. Most climbers attempt Pachermo Peak via Tashi Laptsa Pass(5755m) known for its steep climbs. The Rolwaling Tashi Laptsa Pass Trek offers serene, scenic paths contrasting with bustling Khumbu trails.

The trek begins at Gongar Khola in Dolakha, an eight-hour drive from Kathmandu. The route leads to Simigaon, crossing a suspension bridge and passing through indigenous Tamang and Sherpa villages. The trail ascends to Daldung La before descending to Beding village and then to Na, ultimately reaching the stunning glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa.

Before navigating to the ridge of Pachermo, trekkers set up a high camp just below rocky walls taking care of potential crevasses near the summit. After acclimatizing, climbers make their final push to the breathtaking summit, rewarded with mystic views of iconic peaks such as Mt. Everest(8848m), Makalu(8463m), Ama Dablam(6812m), and Gauri Shankar(7134m)

After summiting, the Trek continues to Thyangba and Thame village, where trekkers experience the unique local culture. The journey leads down to the bustling town of Namche Bazaar before reaching Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region. The next day, trekkers fly back to Kathmandu, concluding an unforgettable adventure.
