Useful Information

Permits

You will need the following permits for your 5-day Everest trek:

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: All trekkers entering Sagarmatha National Park, the location of the Short EBC Trek, must have this permission. For foreigners, the permit costs NPR 3,000.
  • Trekkers Information Management System Permit: In Nepal, this card is necessary for every trekker. For foreign travelers, the card costs NPR 2000.
  • Local Area Permit: All hikers entering the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, which includes the 5-day Everest Base Camp trek route, must have this permit. For all foreigners, the permit costs NPR 2000.

Accommodation

Along the trails of your Short Trek to Everest Base Camp, we will arrange accommodation in a mix of tea houses and lodges. The most common and budget-friendly option is the traditional teahouses that are small, family-run cottages that provide a bed, a blanket, and a shared bathroom with essential facilities. Staying in these teahouses offers a unique opportunity to experience the warm hospitality and daily life of the local communities.

For those seeking extra comfort, numerous lodges along the route offer private rooms, hot showers, and cozy beds. While slightly more expensive than teahouses, these lodges provide additional amenities, with some even offering Wi-Fi and satellite TV—perfect for trekkers who wish to stay connected.

Both tea houses and lodges have communal areas where you can unwind, share stories with fellow trekkers, and interact with locals. This time of relaxation allows you to truly embrace the journey, soaking in the experience and learning about the culture and traditions of the region. For your overnight stay in Lukla, various hotels with essential facilities will be available, ensuring a comfortable end to your trek.

Food

Food plays a crucial role in keeping you energized during your 5-day trek to Everest Base Camp. The most popular and nutritious meal along the journey is Dal Bhat Tarkari, a wholesome combination of lentils, rice, and vegetables that provides essential protein and energy for trekking. You can also try other traditional Nepali dishes like thukpa (noodle soup), momos (dumplings), and Sherpa curry, each offering a flavorful taste of the region.

For those craving familiar flavors, we also offer Western options such as spaghetti, pizza, and burgers. However, as you ascend to higher altitudes, these choices become more limited, and meals primarily consist of simple yet nourishing dishes like Dal Bhat to sustain you in the challenging terrain.

No matter your budget or dietary preferences, you will have access to a variety of delicious and fulfilling meals throughout your Everest Short Trek, ensuring you stay well-fed and ready for the adventure ahead.

Altitude Sickness

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), also known as altitude sickness, is a common condition that hikers may experience during the EBC Short Trek. It occurs due to the body’s difficulty in adjusting to the lower oxygen levels at higher elevations. Symptoms of AMS include headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

The best way to prevent AMS is through proper acclimatization, which involves a gradual ascent to higher altitudes, allowing your body time to adjust to the thinning air. In addition, staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol and caffeine during your trek will help in managing the symptoms.

Important Note

  • Before booking your Everest Trek, make sure you’re informed about the region, including its weather patterns.
  • If you have any pre-existing health conditions, get a thorough check-up before the trek.
  • Maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated both before and during the trek.
  • Pay attention to your body and inform your guide if you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness.
  • Pack wisely, taking into account the varying weather conditions in the Everest region.
  • Adhere to the “no trace” policy and avoid littering on the trails.
  • Proper acclimatization is essential, as altitude sickness is a serious concern in the Himalayas.
  • Get medical and travel insurance for any potential emergencies.
  • Carry all the necessary travel documents and permits required for the trek.
  • Respect the local culture, cuisine, and people along the way.
  • Ensure you have all the essential gear and equipment for the 5-day trek.
  • Capture the moments and fully embrace the experience of trekking to Everest Base Camp.

Mr Nabin and his team at Alpine Wonder Treks had done a really great job for our Everest Base camp Trek in September 23. We were a group of 14 people (mostly doctors) and our team leader Dr Shailesh chose Alpine Wonder Treks for our trek. Believe me, the arrangements were outstanding. Right from quality of hotels, food, support staff like porters and trek leader, we never had any problems. Mr Nabin made sure that our trek was an enjoyable one. The hotels were also very good and despite weather issues, he made sure we had our chopper and flight from Lukla without hassles. Overall, 5 stars for great service, hospitality and support
